We’re fired up to welcome Marcus Bawdon to the Flamery family as our newest 'embassador'. A seasoned barbecue expert, celebrated author, and founder of the UK BBQ School, Marcus brings unmatched experience and energy to the world of live-fire cooking—and now to Flamery grills.
Marcus Bawdon: The Firestarter
Based in the rolling countryside of Devon, Marcus Bawdon has been championing outdoor cooking in the UK for over a decade. Remarkably, his journey started after 14 years as a vegetarian—an experience that shaped his deep appreciation for flavour, technique, and the joy of cooking with fire.
He founded the UK BBQ School over ten years ago near Cullompton, Devon, where he now teaches everything from BBQ fundamentals to advanced wood-fired oven techniques. His aim? To help people cook outdoors with confidence and creativity, no matter their experience level.
Marcus is also a prolific author, having written Food and Fire, Skewered, BBQ For All, and most recently Backyard BBQ—all packed with flavour-first recipes and smart techniques that reflect his innovative approach to cooking.

Why Marcus and Flamery Are a Perfect Match
Marcus is all about versatility, creativity, and making live-fire cooking accessible to everyone—just like Flamery. Our grills are designed for control, flexibility, and pure firepower, making them an ideal fit for Marcus’s boundary-pushing approach to outdoor cooking.
Marcus’s school has become a hub for barbecue enthusiasts across the UK. With hands-on courses like Live Fire Cooking and Wood-Fired Oven Masterclasses, it’s the perfect place to learn how to control flame, work with smoke, and bring out bold, natural flavours. Whether he’s searing, slow-roasting, or experimenting with new techniques, Flamery is now part of his arsenal.
Marcus’s Take on Flamery
We asked Marcus to share some of his grilling wisdom and thoughts on using Flamery:
What’s your go-to dish to teach on the Flamery Asado Grill?
Marcus: Butterflied leg of lamb with chimichurri roasties. It’s got everything—flavour, theatre, it’s the kind of dish that makes people fall in love with fire cooking.
What’s on your ultimate BBQ playlist?
Marcus: A bit of blues or country does the trick. Something mellow with soul.
Your top tip for Asado-style grilling?
Marcus: Fire management is everything. Start with a hearth fire to build up a solid base of embers, let the flames die down, work with embers, and learn how to control the heat zones for perfect cooking.
If you could cook for any three people, who would they be?
Marcus: Honestly? A few of my closest mates, they know who they are. No celebrity dinner party needed—it’s all about cooking with people who get it, who love the food, the fire, and the laughs as much as I do.
