Keep your Konro cooking better, longer—with these simple maintenance tips.
Whether you’re grilling yakitori, searing steaks, or charring veg, your Konro Grill is built to perform. And with just a little care, it will keep doing exactly that for years to come. Here’s how to clean and care for your Konro properly—so it stays in top condition cook after cook.
1. Let It Cool Down Properly
Before any cleaning, always allow the grill to cool completely. Binchotan charcoal retains heat longer than standard lumpwood, so this could take a while. Once the coals are fully extinguished and the metal is cool to the touch, you’re good to go.

2. Remove Ash Safely
Once cool, tip out the remaining ash and charcoal from the Konro’s firebox. Use a small metal scoop or brush to remove fine ash. Binchotan produces minimal ash, but keeping it clear helps airflow and makes the next lighting quicker and easier. Dispose of ash in a metal container, and ensure it’s fully cold before putting it in the bin.
3. Clean the Grill & Plancha
Your Konro comes with two main cooking surfaces: the 5mm stainless steel grill and the solid plancha plate. Here’s how to clean each:
Stainless Steel Grill
- Scrape off any stuck-on food with a grill brush or scraper. Please be careful with your fingers, the grill slots can be sharp!
- For deeper cleans, soak the grill in warm soapy water and scrub with a non-abrasive sponge.
- Dry thoroughly and re-oil lightly with a high-smoke-point oil to prevent corrosion.
Plancha Plate
- Allow to cool slightly but clean while still warm for best results.
- Scrape off food residue with a plancha scraper or wooden spatula.
- Wipe down with a damp cloth or paper towel.
- Avoid using soap if you’ve seasoned your plancha—just clean, dry, and re-oil lightly.
4. Wipe Down the Body
The Konro's body is made from stainless steel with powder-coated finishes, so it just needs an occasional wipe.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm soapy water.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives or wire wool.
- Dry thoroughly to prevent spotting or rust around bolts or screws.
5. Store It Right
Done grilling? Time to tuck it away.
- Store in a dry, sheltered place, away from rain and damp.
- If you're transporting it or storing for a long period, use the original box or a protective bag.
- Aim not to always leave your Konro outside uncovered—it’s built for the outdoors but not for weather exposure.
6. Regular Checks
- Inspect the vents and airflow system before each cook—clear any ash buildup to ensure proper control.
- Check that handles, racks, and components are secure and damage-free.
- Give your grill a quick wipe before use if it’s been stored for a while.
