Ingredients

  • 315ml Warm Water (38-43°C)
  • 7g Instant Yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 450g All-purpose Flour, plus more for hands and surface

Instructions

  1. Whisk the water, yeast, and sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer (if you have one), cover and allow to rest for 5 minutes. If you don’t have a mixer, it can be done by hand.
  2. Add the olive oil, salt, and flour. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Or if doing by hand mix with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula.
  3. Keep the dough in the mixer and beat for 5 minutes, or knead by hand on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes. Tip: If the dough becomes too sticky during the kneading process, sprinkle with a small amount of flour at a time until it is soft and slightly tacky.
  4. Keep kneading your dough until it passes the windowpane test. Alternatively, after kneading, poke the dough with your finger—if it slowly bounces back, your dough is ready to rise.
  5. Lightly grease a large bowl and place the dough in the bowl–turn it to coat all sides in the oil.
  6. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 60-90 minutes or until double in size.
  7. In the meantime, fire up your grill, preheat oven to around 300°C. If using a pizza stone, place it in the grill to preheat as well or alternatively just use the bottom of the grill.
  8. When the dough is ready, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough in half.
  9. On a lightly floured work surface flatten the dough into a disc. Using lightly floured hands, stretch and flatten the disc into a 12-inch circle, about 1/2-inch thick.
  10. Cover dough lightly with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rest for a few minutes as you prepare your pizza toppings. Toppings are completely up to you, whatever floats your boat!
  11. Using your fingers, push dents into the surface of the dough to prevent bubbling, add your favourite toppings and bake for 4-5 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Remember to turn your pizza to ensure it cooks evenly. Slice hot pizza and serve immediately.­
