As we prepare to bring our Argentinian-style, Yorkshire-made grills to the market, it was finally time to get to the exciting part – the photography, our first-ever Flamery photoshoot. We set out with a seemingly simple mission: to capture the essence of what makes the Flamery grill so special.

While there’s no denying our expertise in product design, development, or our manufacturing capability, we were stepping into unfamiliar territory with this photoshoot. With admittingly limited BBQ skills and absolutely no experience in food photography, we knew we were in for a challenge. But, in true Yorkshire fashion, our can-do attitude kicked in. We decided that taking the DIY approach was the way to go. As a team more familiar with the intricacies of office furniture, we certainly weren’t going to let this opportunity slip by.

Setting the Scene

The location for the shoot was chosen with great care—or so we’d like to say. In reality, our first photoshoot took place in the boss's back garden! The lovely garden and brick outdoor kitchen unintentionally reflected the charm of the Flamery brand, which couldn’t have worked out better. The shoot was centred around our large built-in grill, which looked perfectly at home in the space – almost as if it had been designed to fit there… We were lucky enough to have chosen one of those rare sunny days, which made our day out of the office feel even more special.

Preparation: Laying the Groundwork

Before we could even think about firing up the grill, we knew that preparation was key to a successful photoshoot. Getting the grill into position was easy— I guess when you’ve designed and developed something down to the smallest detail, the assembly instructions are out of the window.

Although we didn’t have a professional chef on hand, our amateur BBQ team stepped up to the challenge. Fortunately, we were lucky to have the guidance of meat experts and online butchers, Farmison & Co., who shared some advice and gave us some recipes to get us through the shoot.

Team Effort

When it comes to launching a new brand, especially one as hands-on as Flamery, it’s all about teamwork. It’s safe to say our first photoshoot was no exception—it was a true team effort (without allowing too many people out of the office) – everyone rolled up their sleeves and got involved.

From the outset, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be a standard day at the office. Fortunately, the team was all able to bring something different to the table, whether it was a keen eye for detail, a knack for setting up the perfect shot, or just a good old-fashioned willingness to do whatever it took to get the job done.

Our Managing Director, Richard, took the lead on the grill itself. His passion for cooking was made incredibly clear to the rest of us as he was able to stand right in front of the grill in the blazing sun for six hours! No but seriously, his hands-on approach reminded all of us why we started Flamery in the first place—out of a genuine love for grilling and a desire to share that passion with others.

Jonathan – the man behind it all – transitioned from his usual role as the mastermind of our brand’s design and strategy, to becoming the director of the day. He guided the team in framing each shot, making sure that we captured everything.

We cannot forget Danny, the guy behind the camera, and more commonly found on the factory floor, actually manufacturing the grills. When he’s not running the shop in the tube profiling department, he’s an incredibly talented photographer, so there was no doubt he was the man for the job.

Then there’s me, Venetia. My main goal was to make sure everything looked as good as it tasted. For me, the shoot wasn’t just about grilling loads of meat and snapping some photos of flames—I wanted to add a touch of finesse that would elevate the final photos.

Reflecting on the Experience

As the day drew to a close, we all sat down to enjoy a well-deserved cold beverage, feeling a collective sense of accomplishment. What initially seemed like a daunting task turned out to be a massive learning opportunity. While the shoot wasn’t perfect, it was the moment we finally saw our hard work come to life. The grill that had been in development for months—endlessly designed and perfected—was finally being showcased in the light it deserved. This experience has set the tone for what’s to come.

Looking back, this photoshoot wasn’t just a necessary step in our product launch; it was a defining moment. As we prepare to launch Flamery, we’re more confident than ever in what we’re bringing to the market. These grills are not just about cooking—they’re about bringing people together, creating memories, and celebrating the art of fire cooking.
